Mynd Labs — sustainability

[ 00 ]posture

Most sustainability pages are written by the marketing team years before the measurement team exists. Ours states what is engineered today, what is measured today, and the claims we refuse to make until an auditor has seen the numbers.

[ 01 ]Compute efficiency

Y0's runtime routes every task to the smallest model that clears its quality bar, because a fast product and a frugal one are the same engineering problem: fewer tokens, tighter context, no speculative reads. Every millisecond we shave off a response is compute we did not burn— the latency budget and the energy budget are one ledger.

This is not a sustainability program bolted onto the product; it is how the product is built, because a pre-revenue company pays for every wasted token twice — once in cash and once in credibility. Efficiency holds even if no one ever asks about emissions, which is exactly why it is the claim we lead with.

[ 02 ]Measured now

tokens per completed task

Every Y0 task records how many tokens it spent end to end. The routing layer is tuned against this number weekly — it is our energy proxy until we have a better one.

model-size routing share

The fraction of tasks resolved by the smallest viable model rather than the largest available one. When this falls, either the product got harder or we got lazy; both deserve a look.

reads per feature

The trust kernel's read budgets cap how much context a feature may pull. A privacy control and a compute control in one number — wasteful features fail both tests at once.

internal instrumentation today — published when the methodology survives outside review

[ 03 ]Refused claims

[01]

No carbon-neutral claim

We have not measured our emissions, so we will not declare them neutralized. Offsets purchased for an announcement are an accounting trick we decline.

[02]

No net-zero pledge with a distant deadline

A promise dated past the founder's plausible tenure is not a commitment, it is set dressing. If we ever publish a target, it will come with the measurement that makes it checkable.

[03]

No green badge on the product

Y0 carries no leaf icons and no percentage-renewable banner, because our cloud providers' energy mix is their disclosure, not our achievement. We will claim what we did, when we can show it.

When audited numbers exist, they will join the transparency ledger on /impact, defined the way our KPIs are — until then, this page stays exactly this small.
